The WTA Today was founded in January 2011 as This Week in Tennis. The initial idea for the site was to post articles about ATP & WTA tennis players and tournaments.
Toward the beginning of August 2011, after attending the Citi Open in College Park, Maryland, the idea to limit the content to women’s tennis was hatched. The complete lack of options for receiving daily women’s tennis results and schedules via email was the driving force behind the switch from This Week in Tennis to WTA Today.
On August 31, 2011, the first WTA Today Daily Newsletter was emailed…to ONE subscriber! The WTA Today daily newsletter grew in size and went through many redesigns, but the mission to provide daily women’s tennis results and orders of play in an easily accessible format didn’t change.
In 2013, the WTA Today website was initially moved to Springpad and moved back to WordPress after Agathe “Aggie” Rigault agreed to provide content to the site. Ms. Rigault lives in France and is WTA Today’s European Representative. Aggie will be posting regular WTA Today articles and will be providing content to the “Tennistically yours” section of this website.
WTA Today owner, Michael “Dutch” Barber, is a former United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) & Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certified tennis professional. He resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has traveled around the world to various tennis events.
